if i were you
if you're my family member, good friend or superior, i think it's justified for you to use that phrase on me. if you aren't that qualified, but you say it politely, like in a 'in my opinion, but that's just my opinion' kind of way, it's fine too. in fact, i'd appreciate the fact that you bothered to help.
BUT if you're in absolutely no position to comment, and you say it in a patronising, 'listen to me because i'm right' tone, i really cannot stand it. i feel like screaming "BUT YOU'RE NOT ME, AND YOU NEVER WILL BE NO MATTER HOW MUCH PLASTIC SURGERY YOU DO." Sarah came up with a better way to counter this though x) next time someone like that says "if i were you...", listen interestedly till he/she is done, and then look the person in the eye and reply: "if i were you, i'd stop talking to me." HAHAHA. okay actually i'm frustrated with something else and i even typed out a paragraph on it, but then highlighted the entire thing and hit delete instead. venting my frustration on this seemed somehow more sensible. but thank you mummy, Bhen and Alef. i know i anywayyy, during bio lecture yesterday, my lecturer was showing a video of the development of the fetus. he stared at the screen thoughtfully before announcing: "you were all once a ball of cells. (short pause) how undignified." x) |
